Job Description

Under the general administration of the Chair and the Site Director for Psychiatry, this position encompasses professional, supervisory and administrative activities of various degrees of latitude for complexity and responsibility in providing diagnosis of psychiatric illness and executing corrective therapeutic intervention in collaboration with a psychiatrist and in accordance with written Nurse Practitioner protocols approved by N.Y.S. and the institution's Medical Board

  • Provide psychiatric care including psychiatric evaluations, admissions and follow-ups in the Comprehensive Psychiatric Emergency Program (CPEP) under general supervision of the collaborating physician
  • Performs comprehensive psychiatric history and psychosocial assessment
  • Performs basic psychiatric interviews to obtain historical information from patient, family and appropriate sources
  • Perform and record physical and mental status examination
  • Perform, order and interpret appropriate screening and diagnostic laboratory tests and consultations

Minimum Qualifications

  • A valid New York State license and current registration to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse issued by the New York State Department of Education (NYSED); and
  • Current certificate as a Nurse Practitioner issued by the NYSED; and
  • Holds, or obtains through facility orientation, a valid and current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA).
