The NEGAPNA Board express our gratitude to our speakers:
Susan Mullaney, DNP, APRN, GNP-BC
Dr. Mullaney presented: Leadership is Everyone’s Responsibility: Engage and Advocate
Dr. Mullaney is a Gerontological Nurse Practitioner who currently works as a Vice President within the Center for Clinician Advancement at UnitedHealth Group. Within the Center, she leads initiatives to promote the role all clinicians play in the health care system with an emphasis on scope of practice and advocacy. Sue serves on national taskforces, is active within her professional organizations, including Chair of GAPNA’s Health Affairs Committee, and engages in volunteer opportunities within her community. Sue received GAPNA’s Excellence in Leadership Award and UHG’s Leadership in Nursing Practice Fellowship Award. She received her DNP and Masters from the University of Massachusetts Lowell and her Bachelors from Boston College.
Amy Bruno, PhD, ANP-BC
Dr Bruno presented: Tremors & Twitches: Assessment & Management of Selected Movement Disorders
Amy Bruno is currently the assistant professor and the co-coordinator of the Adult-Gero primary care NP program at the MGH-IHP. She has worked for the last 10 years as a neurology NP. She completed her PhD in experience of living with Parkinson’s disease related fatigue. Dr. Bruno’s clinical interest and expertise focuses on the assessment and management of tremor disorders and Parkinson’s disease
Dorene M. Rentz, PsyD
Dr Rentz presented: Recent Advances in the Early Detection of Alzheimer’s Disease: Importance of Prevention, Treatment and Research
Dorene M. Rentz, PsyD, is an Associate Professor of Neurology at Harvard Medical School with dual appointments in the Departments of Neurology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, Massachusetts. She serves in multiple capacities as the Co-Director of the Center for Alzheimer Research and Treatment; the Director of Neuropsychology of the Massachusetts Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center (MADRC); Director of the Outreach, Recruitment and Education Core and Clinical Core Leader of the Harvard Aging Brain Study.
Kate Treloar, LICSW, CSW‐G
Ms. Treloar presented: Successful Dementia Interventions from Dawn to Dusk
After years of researching and documenting the various positive interventions in working with dementia patients who have “behaviors”. The question is “Is this ‘behavior’ a problem? And for Whom?” This lecture will review the antecedents, problem and assessment of difficult dementia behaviors. Non-pharmalogical interventions will be reviewed for the most frequently observed in long term care settings.
MJ Henderson MS, RN, GNP-BC
Ms. Henderson presented: How to be a Great Preceptor: Use the Adult Gerontology Competencies
MJ Henderson has been a GNP for 30 years and has served on the 2015-16 NONPF-AACN exert panel revising the AGNP competencies. She is a co-author of the 2010 ANCC Gerontological Nursing Review & Resource Manual. As an Assistant Professor at MGHIHP she coordinated the curriculum revision for the new Adult and Gerontology Primary Care NP program. MJ has presented many times both in the USA and abroad. She is currently a Gerontological Nursing Consultant.
Alan Abrams, MD, MPH
Dr Abrams presented: Preparing for the Boom: Understanding How to Impact Change in Clinical Settings that Care for Older Adults
Dr. Abrams is a geriatrician and internist with decades of experience teaching, leading and clinically caring for the elderly across the spectrum of care. Among many positions he is an assistant professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School and was the Program Director of the Harvard Multi-Campus Geriatric Medicine Fellowship. He has been Medical Director of Geriatrics at Cambridge Health Alliance, Massachusetts United Health, PACE, and Chief Medical Officer of the Beth Israel Deaconess Accountable Care Organization.
