The board is pleased to announce the winner of the NE GAPNA 2021-2022 scholarship is Soralid Heredia, from Windsor Locks, CT.

She is a dedicated student, nurse, and soon-to-be Family Nurse Practitioner. She was born in the Dominican Republic and Immigrated with her family to the U.S in 2003. She has worked her way from earning her ASN at Capital Community College in Hartford, to her BSN from the University of Rhode Island; and now working on her FNP at the University of Saint Joseph in West Hartford. She is fluent in both Spanish and English, broadening the spectrum of patients she can help; which has proven beneficial working as a bedside Nurse. Coming from humble beginnings, Soralid plans to work in her community; to provide excellent patient care and education in low-income

She understands that special attention needs to be given to geriatric patients, and plans "to become involved in [her] community serving geriatric patients" and combat polypharmacy.  She "developed a 'cheat sheet' in English and Spanish; to help geriatric patients have a quick snapshot of their medical care" ...  to have "pertinent medical information readily available, and help be a reminder when having difficulty with questions at the primary care office visits."  Her glowing recommendation and many awards and scholarships further support what a wonderful candidate she is for this scholarship.  Congratulations Sorilaid! We look forward to your participation in NE GAPNA and as an NP in the geriatric community.
